In a few instances, employees may be permanently incapable of carrying out any work, however modified.  The Occupational Health Physician's role is to provide an expert medical opinion in the form of a medical report.  The report will support an application for Ill Health Retirement, having ensured all options in terms of appropriate investigations and reasonable treatment have been tried.
